I recently aquired a Futurama Duo from 1963-64, all the pots, bridge and tailpiece are original but the pickups were swapped out in the 60s for a set from a Wakins Rapier 22.
Luckly the neck is straight and the truss rod works which save me a lot of time, needs a good fret job as they frets are worn and tarnished.
This needs lots of work before becoming playable. I need to make a new bridge as the original is in a bad state, I’ve chosen a lovely piece of walnut which I’ll stain and seal up with Linseed oil.
I’ve taken the pickups out and taken them apart to look at the vintage craftsmanship, when I did I realised why they sounded so weak!
It’s an ongoing project so I’ll update the blog as and when I anything to it.
