A few weeks back I had this Tele in that had a stripped truss rod nut.
After a lot of careful scrapping and cutting I managed to free up the Walnut plug that was originally covering in finish and paint!
When it was clear I could go about extracting the stripped nut from the truss rod and at the same time take the plug out so I could get the nut out once it had been freed from the truss rod.
I then installed the new nut, washer and plug and it was ready to play again!
The key here is not to over tighten your truss rod nut, if you’re finding it hard to turn then take it to a professional to have it adjusted, it could save you quite a bit of cash! š
